Hello,
I have done first tests on the bench with two RX8R. My test setup was/is as follows:
- Taranis X9D plus with international FW and OTx V2.1.9 and external XJT module installed
- one RX8R bound to internal XJT module in telemetry mode with chanels 1-8
- one RX8R bound to external XJT module with telemetry disabled and chanels set to 9-16
- both RX8R interconnected via SBUS OUT port and RX IN port (thus 2 cables)
- two servos connected to each Rx, thus to chanels 1+2 on the first Rx and to chanels 9+10 on second Rx
When using the external XJT module simultaneously with internal one, the two DipSwitches on the back side of the module must be set to ON position. This DipSwitch position is not defined in the manual, but I was told from FrSky to use that setting.
I started my tests on the bench with both HF-modules active. Then I have simulated Tx/Rx link loss by switching off either HF module in my Taranis.
Test results show reliable and uninterrupted control of all 4 servos, even with either XJT module deactivated. This means and prooves that two interconnected RX8R in combination with additional external XJT module provide double HF link redundancy for 16 chanels. Ofcourse both RX8R can also be bound to just the internal HF module alone, I only could not simulate a single Rx link loss in such configuration.
I am very happy with the test results so far, you will have HF link redundancy for 16 chanels, each of both RX8R does work as master as well as slave for the other RX8R in respective condition that one Rx may loose its Tx link. You should only take care for suitable power load distribution among both Rx. Without any additional measure the second RX8R will receive its power just via the two interconnecting SBUS cables, while the first sees even the total current load of both Rx. This can be improved (if wanted) by connecting both Rx via Y-cable coming from BEC with however disconnected signal line in one connection of the Y-cable. Or if model does not have an electric motor, it might be considered to use a 2s LiFePo and provide a direct power connection to each Rx.
